Rotary Program; 5/7/03
Program Chairperson: Carrie Cinnamond
Speaker: Marty Childers, Executive Director of Jenny Wiley Theater
Marty Childers needs no introduction to the Rotary Club as he is a
regular speaker and presenter on behalf of the Jenny Wiley Theater each
year. This year, however, he had a special treat for all in attendance to
today's meeting.
To give us some idea of the kinds of entertainment provided at Jenny Wiley
this year, he brought along six talented young people to sing, dance, and
perform their way into our hearts. Those six young men and women were Misty
Daniels, Mark Smith, Heather Branham, Adam Doran, and Erin Jones. They were
also accompanied by Scott Bradley at the piano to provide the music for a
series of skits and songs all about the illusions and delusions of marriage.
The premise for the performance had to do with a single guy named Bobby who
was contemplating marriage and the advice and support he got from his
married friends. I'm sure I speak for all the Rotarians and their guests
when I say we were spellbound by the acting ability and singing that came
from this group as they performed such songs as "Boy, Have I Got a Girl For
You", "You Gotta Be Crazy", and "Side By Side". Then for his 30th Birthday
Party, the married couples lavished upon Bobby such performances as "What
Would I Do Without You?" and "Company, Lots of Company". Then Bobby gave a
stirring performance in a solo version of "Someone....Somebody". If this is
the level of talent and the kinds of performances we can expect from Jenny
Wiley Theater this year, we ought to make plans now to purchase our tickets
in advance. Thanks, Marty, Misty, Bethany, Mark, Heather, Adam, and Erin
for making this one Rotary Meeting to be remembered for a long time.
